Qureshi added that many factors, such as general and ocular diseases, ocular disorders, autoimmune and collagen tissue diseases, genetic and maternal diseases and unknown factors, are contributing to the disease, but its prevalence has increased in recent years. Current lifestyles include nutrition, low mobility, increased stress, climate and environmental pollution. Other important factors include increased dry eye, overuse of the computer and excessive use of cell phones. So although in the past, dry eyes were only for older people, unfortunately today, this problem has spread to the young.
He added: “Of course, the idea is not to use computers and mobile phones, but to use these devices even as limited as possible, and the person using these devices should rest his eyes and should not spend too much time on the computer screen. The cornea specialist also considered the role of nutrition in preventing dry eye and continued: “Antioxidants and diets that have omega-3s are very effective in preventing dry eye.
Qureshi also pointed to the most important symptoms of dry eyes, adding that burning and feeling of the foreign body in the eye, fatigue of the eyes and drowsiness, are recognized as the most important symptoms. When a person develops dry eyes, tears do not cover the eye well, which can lead to symptoms and visual disturbances.
The corneal specialist emphasized: Although dry eye may not have definitive treatment, in most cases the disease can be controlled with existing treatments.
“People who use computers try to keep their device’s monitor a little lower than the eye’s surface so that the eye itself remains a closed one, and if they work in an environment where the air is dry, even possible devices,” he said.
